COEAMT
The Ministry of Heavy Industries, Govt of India has founded the CoEAMT organization at IIT Kharagpur. The top industry members from across the country come for their contribution to this project. The purpose of the CoEAMT organization is to promote innovative technologies in the manufacturing area.
For the manufacturing of smart machines, we need to adopt innovative techniques. This can be done by integrating different industries. The project needed synergistic collaboration to produce the machines with good quality at lower prices.
CoEAMT Goals
The CoEAMT organization has the aim to become the first choice in India in terms of a knowledge center for advanced manufacturing. We have listed the main goals of the CoEAMT organization below.
- There should be technological interventions in the manufacturing sector.
- The material needed the innovation.
- The organization will develop the innovative process for manufacturing and innovative technologies in the manufacturing process.
- The preference should be given to intelligent manufacturing like robotics, IIoT, and automation.
- In manufacturing, the companies should involve SME techniques.
- There should be international collaborations for the best output.
- To provide the skills and nurturing environment to the industry.
- To adhere to the Intellectual Property using the IP protection and licensing process.

The activities at CoEAMT organization are described below which are majorly performed at the organization.
- The CoEAMT organization has a lot of research work to develop specialty materials.
- The members at CoEAMT are working on the design and automation in manufacturing.
- The activities performed at CoEAMT include additive manufacturing techniques.
- There should be AI-enabled solutions for the manufacturing issues.

Research Verticals at CoEAMT
In this section, we are going to discuss the research verticals at the CoEAMT organization. The CoEAMT organization has four research verticals.
1. Specialty Materials
The CoEAMT organization has the objective to become the leader at the global level in the field of materials required for manufacturing. The material should be corrosion-resistant. The material should be wear-resistant. The aim is to build lightweight material. The material can be glass, ceramics, biomaterials, or electronic materials. The research is ongoing on all of these materials at the CoEAMT organization.
Projects
- The first project has a focus on Non-metallic inclusions.
- The second project is working on the designing part of the machines.
- The third project is working on the bimetallic Ti-Al alloy.
Infrastructure
- There is a Torsional fatigue testing facility in the CoEAMT organization.
- There is a High-resolution FESEM at the CoEAMT organization.
- Bench-top XRD machine is also in use for research purposes.
2. Robotics & Automation
The work is going on to include modern technologies in manufacturing at the CoEAMT organization. Modern technologies should be inclined to the phases of fabrication and automation. The CoEAMT organization is working on the project- to change the design of the manufacturing machine for best output in less cost.
Projects
- The first project is working on a multi-sensor integrated robotic system. It will help in the hazardous jobs in the manufacturing industry.
- The second project is Cobot-based vision analytics. It will be used for quality inspection in the automobile industry.
- The third project is a Design Review of the Automatic Kitchen System.
Infrastructure
- The CoEAMT organization has an industrial robot that can work on offline programming and also on simulation software.
- The CoEAMT organization has sensors of ultrasonic range.
- There are image processing workstations at CoEAMT organization.
3. Additive Manufacturing
The CoEAMT organization is working on additive manufacturing. This concept will transform the manufacturing process for some industries. The work is also going on the 3-D printing technology. Additive manufacturing aims to reduce material waste. There is a need to develop inventory and different types of assembly operations.

- The first project is working on the solutions to technological challenges in metal additive manufacturing technology.
- The second project is working to choose the raw materials for additive manufacturing.
- The third project is working on the life cycle analysis of additive manufacturing materials.
Infrastructure
- The CoEAMT organization has high resolution blue light 3D scanner.
- There is a high-speed camera at CoEAMT.
- The techniques of 3D modeling, Reverse engineering, and Life cycle analysis are used at CoEAMT.
- The CoEAMT follows the rapid prototyping model.
4. Industry 4.0
This is related to use the of digital technologies in manufacturing. The involvement of digital technologies in advanced manufacturing will transform the machines working in the industries. It will change the process of operations in the industry and the monitoring process will also be improved. It will include IIoT in manufacturing. Data analytics will also transform manufacturing in the industries. There is a vision to develop smart machines. One machine can communicate with another machine.

- The first project is working on remote monitoring and real-time control.
- The second project is working on the digital manufacturing and industrial Internet of Things.
- The third project is working on augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) in manufacturing.
Infrastructure
- CoEAMT has a micro friction stir welding machine.
- There is an automated CNC machine at CoEAMT.
- The CoEAMT has a CNC turning center.
- The CoEAMT has high-precision sensors that can check oil quality monitoring, etc.
- The organization has a wide range of thermal imagers.
- There are high-end servers for research.
- The CoEAMT organization has a computer-integrated manufacturing system.
